The CASIE Center Body Safety Program

In 2017, Indiana passed Erin’s Law, which requires all K-12 schools to provide body safety and child abuse prevention programs. New in the 2023-2024 school year, The CASIE Center staff have begun providing in-school child abuse prevention education to students in St. Joseph County schools!

Using research-based, age-appropriate curricula designed by the Monique Burr Foundation for Children, we teach students of all ages to recognize signs of abuse and identify a "safe adult" that they can talk to. All students learn five simple, easy-to-remember "Safety Rules" to help them keep themselves and others safe. Depending on grade level, lessons also cover bullying, online safety, and other relevant topics.

As we continue to expand the program to additional schools, we aim to empower students to recognize red flags and use a "common language" to speak up about potential experiences of abuse.
